This course will give a thorough overview of the contrast used in gastro-intestinal (GI) studies, the technique for preparing contrast agents (for the Radiographic technologist) and performing a standard technique and details some of the special studies required of the gastrointestinal tract post-surgery. A better informed and mentally prepared patient will provide cooperation and hence good imaging studies. A patient undergoing an uncomfortable small bowel enema should not come to a radiology department ill-informed of the procedure (some may require sedation). Therefore patient brochures fully explaining the procedure and the bowel preparation before they arrive to the Department would make for a comfortable study for the patient, resident and the radiologist. We have include sample brochures as part of this course.
