Electromagnetic Radiation
(EMR) Electromagnetic radiation consists of an electric and a magnetic field component. All EMR travels in a vacuum at the speed of light. EMR is classified related to the frequency//length of the wave.
An EM wave consists of discrete packets of energy, named photons (quantization). The energy of the photons depends on the frequency of the wave. Planck-Einstein equation:
E = h * f
E (energy); h (Planck's constant); f (frequency)
EMR types include in order of increasing frequency//decreasing wavelength: radio waves, microwaves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, x-rays and gamma rays. EMR contains energy and momentum, which may be imparted when it interacts with matter.

Emitting
Emitting is for example the release of particles (electrons, etc.) or rays (x-rays, etc.) as a consequence of e.g. a nuclear (decay, fission, or fusion) process.

Film
A film consists of a thin, transparent sheet of polyester or similar material. Films are coated on one or both sides with an emulsion sensitive to radiation, light or heat. Films are relatively radiolucent due to their relatively low atomic number (that of silver halide).

Film Processor
A film processor is a peripheral x-ray equipment used in conjunction with a camera to create hard-copy images. Film processors should be maintained at their optimum operating conditions by regular quality control procedures. Optimal film processing has important implications for the diagnostic quality of the image stored on film.
Focus to Detector Distance
(FDD) The focus to detector distance is the distance between the focal spot of the x-ray tube and the radiation detectors.
