Archiving
This term usually refers to the storage of patient data and images. Images are best archived in digital form (e.g., on optical disks, DVDs, PACS systems) and not only on films (hard copies, prints). Data compression via a reduction in matrix size, pixel depth or CT numbers, will result in a loss of spatial and contrast resolution. Digital images should be converted into a universal format such as DICOM. Raw data saving is necessary when additional image reconstructions are required.

Arthrogram
An arthrogram is an x-ray fluoroscopy of a joint performed with a sequential digital subtracted spot films after injection of a contrast agent.

See Arthrography.
Autoradiography
Autoradiography is a method that uses incorporated radioactive material as the source of the radiation. The image on an x-ray film or nuclear emulsion is recorded by direct contact of the object with photo emulsion. Photographic emulsions have a very high efficiency for beta radiation.
Bucky
A Bucky is a component of x-ray units that holds the x-ray film cassette and moves the grid during x-ray exposure. The motion keeps the lead strips from being seen on the x-ray picture.
The name refers to Dr. Gustave Bucky who invented the use of filter grids in 1913.
Clearing Agent
Chemical, usually ammonium thiosulfate, added to the fixer to remove undeveloped silver bromine from the film emulsion.
