Sinografin® (diatrizoate meglumine and iodipamide meglumine) is a contrast agent indicated for use in hysterosalpingography. Intrauterine used contrast agents have few known pharmacological effects. Most of the medium within the uterine cavity is discharged immediately after finishing of the procedure and the contrast medium retained is completely absorbed.

Cystografin® (USP30% or Cystografin®-Dilute USP 18%) is a radiopaque contrast agent for retrograde cystourethrography. Cystografin® is not intended for intravascular injection.

Hypaque Meglumine is an ionic contrast agent. Hypaque Meglumine 60 percent (w/v) is an aqueous solution containing 60 g of the meglumine salt of diatrizoic acid per 100 mL of solution.
The degree of contrast enhancement at computed tomography is directly related to the amount of iodine administered. In adults the amount of iodine usually required for contrast enhancement ranges from 28 to 42 g.
Hypaque Meglumine is also available in concentrations of 18% and 30%.

Hypaque Sodium is a high-osmolar, water-soluble contrast agent. In pure form, it contains 59.87 percent organically bound iodine.
The dosage of contrast media is depended on the type of radiological procedure and should be tailored individually according to age, body size, and indication for examination.

Iodinated contrast agents (typically iodine-substituted benzene derivatives) are bound either in nonionic or ionic compounds. Ionic contrast agents consist of the negatively charged anion and the positively charged cation. Used components of the anion are for example diatrizoate, iodamide, iothalamate or metrizoate and of the cation the sodium or meglumine ion. The osmotic pressure depends on the number of particles in solution. Ionic contrast agents have a greater osmolarity; double that of nonionic contrast agents due to delivering more iodine atoms per molecule.
Ionic contrast agents were developed first and are still in use depending on the examination. Iodine based contrast media are water soluble and as harmless as possible to the body. However, ionic agents have more side effects compared to nonionic contrast agents due to their high osmolarity.
